Teacher Resources
There are many resources that can help you in your teaching and help student learn. I think infographics and teaching with games are a few of the most important resources a teacher could use. Infographics are visuals, they could be symbols, shapes, or images that add character to simple numbers, words, and sentences (Staff). We are required as teachers to use a number of resources like charts, forms, and other ways to express data not only for science and math but for reading as well. Infographics can be made by the teacher or even the student. Faisal Khan created a list of 46 tools with great places to create infographics.
Another important resource to fuel learning could be games. Games are so important I the classroom because it brings on that higher order thinking we want the kids to experience. They can engage in the activity and really think about what they are learning. A few great ideas for games In the classroom could be role-playing games. Chris Clark talks about the award-winning series of structured in-class-role-playing games, “Reacting to the Past”. You can also use games that are already available like board games. Another great option is to make your own games. Almost every topic can be turned into a simple game. For example, when learning to read and write a word/sound sort could be made for almost everything.
I would love to be able to have numerous games in my classroom in order to help my students learn. I truly believe that I learn better when I am given information in a form that I am able to manipulate. Today, kids are so engrossed in games and electronics that this would be such a beneficial way to allow them to learn. Infographics tie hand in hand with games. Visuals are a necessity when teaching kids. I want my students to be able to remember something like data, and actually learn about it rather than just memorizing numbers and facts.

  1. Infographics are an important technological aid that can be incorporated for any discipline. It is so vital that in fact, I bet more instructors use them than that do not. Role-playing games so like so much fun. I say that because I have actually played them as a pastime, so I can see how they can benefit the students in making learning fun. If I were role-playing in my classroom, I would not even want to leave school. Thank you for sharing Jacqueline.

  2. Games are so important. Games, just like technology bring life into the lesson. I have heard of teachers complaining that games get students rowdy and out of control. I believe that if the games are interesting the students will not get out of control. I also believe if there is good classroom management then games should not be an issue. Games are a great way to spice up your lesson. I also think that allowing they students to make up their own games as like a review of a test would be fun an interesting. Great post!

  3. You have excellent ideas! I really like how you stepped away from the world of technology. Technology is very important in the classroom, but I think it tends to overwhelm teachers and students. It was nice to see you go back to the basics. I know when I was working with preschoolers I tended to turn everything into a game, because that is how they best learned. I think that goes for all ages when it comes to learning.

  4. Infographics just seem so natural as a tool for teaching. If the student see images and shapes as part of any information that is presented to them they are more likely to pay attention. Also games in the classroom makes sense also in that it keeps kids interested in learning of skills. They are more likely to learn and remember concept when presented in a fun interactive form such as games. Pictures and games are far more interesting than just reading and writing alone all the time!

  5. Jaqueline, I also talked about the use of game in my post. Students tend to learn more when they aren't being bored just sitting listening to a lecture. I too want to incorporate the use of game in my classroom to encourage learning. If you make it fun enough the students won't even realize or care that they are learning new material.
